"The night sky is not lit up by one star, but by the billions of stars. Shine bright Black girls….Be bold. Be bright. Be blessed."
Just a few black girls/women who blew me away in 2013. I can’t wait to see what 2014 holds for them, for us, and for all Women of Color.
What I’ve never comprehended is why it’s black women only. As a woman, shouldn’t you be proud of every woman’s achievements? It’s not like I go “oh, too bad that guy was asian, otherwise I would be proud of him”
And as a BLACK woman, shouldn’t I be able to celebrate my fellow BLACK women without someone trying to minimize their achievements (which are always overlooked or overtly ignored by mainstream media)? Without someone running up on my post screaming “SHOULDN’T IT BE ABOUT ALL WOMAN, WHY IS IT JUST BLACK WOMEN! ALL WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL.” When the media doesn’t say that all women are beautiful/loved/respected - especially not black women.
Why does it bother you so much that this post takes what is shoved into the margins consistently and places them as the center? This post is about black women and it will stay about black women. Plain and simple.
You can find it’s companion post here that venerates ALL women by the way.
Representation matters. Good day.
